    Poefusion

    Poefusion #22

I have taken today's writing exercise from Poetry The Daily Spark by Sparknotes Editors. Excerpted from pg 132.

Freewrite for five minutes on whatever topic comes to mind. When five minutes have passed, go back through what you've written, and pick out the most bizarre sentence or phrase. Then write a poem that uses this sentence or phrase as its first line.

    Sorry for the late post.

    Boogie Boarding

Yesterday MyKiah and I dredged through 5 1/2- 6 inches of snow to go Boogie boarding on a hill facing the AA Highway. Layered in warm clothes we laid the Boogie board down and broke new speeds to the bottom. Barring our exit into the AA Highway was a steel, gray guardrail that happily excepted any snow we plowed onto it.

Today we have received another 2 inches of snow. Beautiful, big flakes of white still falling from the morning, gray sky.

    Hormonal Winter

    a winter- chilled yesternight
    wined the vitreous trees
    once-stark below the
    lank skies ceiling
    and found morning limpid
    with a lacquered white varnish.

The above was written from an online magnetic poetry kit. I thought it fit my picture well and whose view is from my front porch. We've received 5 1/2- 6 inches of ice/ snow in the last two days and I'm hearing we are due to get more.

It Was Almost Like A Song

I finished my first two page mixed media/ collage tonight for my art journal. I titled it It Was Almost Like A Song after Archie Jordan's piano sheet music of the same name. It's also a song by Ronnie Milsap which I've included a link to here. Most of you will recognize the image from this post on 1/12. The one above is done in charcoal and was my fourth attempt at drawing Millande's art instructed face. I'm still dissatisfied I can't get it to look exactly like hers in the video but, I'm pleased overall with the image itself. My next art journey will be to draw my own self portrait or possibly alter a photo I have of me rappelling for Illustration Friday's theme: climbing. I'm not sure yet. Then again, I may veer from both these ideas and go with something altogether different.

    Fountain Ice

Tuesday I went downtown to take some pictures of a friends art exhibit when I noticed Limestone Landing's fountain water frozen. Walking around its perimeter I found stalactites and stalagmites fusing to the fountain rock's underbelly reminding one of a miniature cave. A utopia for the unfrozen water to trickle through in search of uncertain warmth. I linger for a moment longer and already I see this white exoskeleton cracking and peeling. I wonder how long it will be before one can toss a penny breaking its surface with a wish.

    Mini Ice Sculpture

I could feel bitter winds whittling away at the last bit of bodily warmth as I laid belly to frozen ice for this close up yesterday. The large corridor surrounding me in half light, half darkness. I search the eyes of this birdlike creature and wonder how she became a sequin nested between two brown walls and a ceiling that echoed overhead cars.

    A Feather Black

A clever crow will always paint its feather black.

Today I stopped at Wal-Mart for Subway's Grilled Chicken Sandwich when I spotted this beautiful seagull flying around the parking lot. I'm impressed I was able to secure as good a picture of her in flight. I think it odd to see her in the middle of winter flying above an ocean of cars instead of amidst sea air and sunshine. Nonetheless, I'm pleased I could share her visit.

    Self Portrait?

Not really! It's a drawing I did yesterday from an instructional art journaling video by Milliande. I simply loved the look of this figure and had to try my hand at drawing her. I didn't have all the proper equipment so I did most of the illustration with a 6B pencil and a Sharpie ultra fine permenant marker. To embellish the look I took my newest hummingbird rubber stamp and placed it above her head as though it was ready to sip from the flower on her forehead.

For those interested in viewing Milliande's video instruction I have included it below. You will notice I strayed from the finished journal page as I liked the image, plus I didn't have the right products to finish it the way she does in the video. Here's a link to her YouTube channel and her website if you are interested in finding out more about art journaling or Milliande.
