A beautiful photo... I love chestnuts. I used to play with them when I was a child. I drew faces on them and made them into characters of my fairy tales. :-)
Buckeyes. Right? Buckeyes. We used to collect them, use a darning needle, and pierce them with yarn to make a necklace so we could be Native Americans in our dreams.
Ah, conkers! I don't know whether you play it where you are, but in the UK chestnuts are gathered by the kids, a hole put thru them and string attached. They then take it in turns to try to smash an opponent's conker. Schools throughout the land used to play it. At times, it could be quite painful.
This is a great shot Michelle. A perfect setting and subject. We don't have them here, but my father in law brought me some home one time when they went on vacation.

Ah very nice; the conkers on stone. I really like the silky chestnut look against the rough rock. There is actually an English game which features trying to knock out the opponent's chestnut with yours called "Conkers". Have you heard of it?

If I could do it,I'd do no writing at all here. It would be photographs; the rest would be fragments of cloth, bits of cotton, lumps of earth, records of speech, pieces of wood and iron, phials of odors, plates of food and of excrement... ... A piece of the body torn out by the roots might be more to the point. James Agee

Beautiful photo. Granite and chestnuts = fabulous.
... and we used to roast them on the fire with a toasting fork. Mmmmm!
These days we have chestnut stuffing on Christmas day.
A most evocative phot, Michelle; I can almost smell them! They remind me of the street barrows of hot chestnuts in Rome.
for some reason, I want to title this "3 wishes"...

Michelle - I think you have to be from here. :-)
My dad calls them lucky nuts. :)
You've heard of the horse whisperer? Well, you're the nature capturer :)
Everything about this is completely beautiful.
Lovely nature shot of the buckeyes. Thanks for visiting too.
