Tiel at Knocking From Inside gave this beautiful award to Poefusion for all its writing prompt efforts. I want to shout out a BIG thank you to her for thinking about Poefusion. It's a really nice award. I will be sharing this award with the following bloggers for their heartfelt poetry.

    Mitsubishi Eclipse

My daughter MyKiah got her permit Monday and on Tuesday we took her to stay all night with my parents for the week. When we arrived, there was a Mitsubishi Eclipse sitting in the driveway for MyKiah. Below you will find a video of her driving (first time) my mother to Shoney's for lunch. John and I are driving behind while I film the video. You'll also get to catch a small glimpse of how beautiful the hills are. I sure miss them. We don't have mountains here in Maysville.

    Sijo

The Sijo is classical Korean poetry that explores rustic, metaphysical or cosmological themes about nature and human life. Sijo is traditionally composed in three lines of 14-16 syllables each, totaling between 44-46 syllables. Sijo may be narrative or thematic and introduces a situation in line 1, development in line 2, and twist or conclusion in line 3. The Sijo is more lyrical and personal than most East Asian poetic forms. Learn more about this poetic form at wikipedia and ahapoetry.

    Here's an example

The spring breeze melted snow on the hills then quickly disappeared.
I wish I could borrow it briefly to blow over my hair
And melt away the aging frost forming now about my ears.

    Permit Test

Today my daughter, MyKiah, passed the written test for her permit but, not the vision part. She has to have her eyes checked by the doctor on July 28th and have him fill out the paperwork we were given by the instructor administering her test. Once that's been done we can take the paperwork back to the instructor and get her permit. She's so excited about driving. Congratulations MyKiah! Mom and Dad love you very much.

    Summer Throttle

Sitting inside Wendy's my heart starts racing; summer throttle. I see a white Dodge Neon spin into the middle turning lane as it is stung by the splendor of sudden black. Her Pontiac Grand Prix now resting on its left side.

I move closer to the window to see if everyone is alright. A crowd has gathered around the featurette asking what I imagine to be the usual questions and calling 911. Minutes expire when I see the rescue team assessing the situation.

When John and MyKiah finish eating their hamburgers and french fries we step outside into the day's heat. There we have a better view of the accident and the Toyota Tacoma that was also involved. It appears to have hit the Pontiac Grand Prix in the back end causing her to hit the Dodge Neon, a chain reaction of sorts.

I will always remember her young face cut from the airbag's impact and the lady in her thirties holding her ribs as she exited the overturned car. But, most of all, I will remember this day because my daughter will be trying for her permit... tomorrow.

Mark McCowen's picture title Stung By The Splendor Of Sudden Black is in bold.

There is a silence where hath been no sound,
There is a silence where no sound may be,
In the cold grave—under the deep deep sea,
Or in wide desert where no life is found,
    Which hath been mute, and still must sleep profound;
No voice is hush'd—no life treads silently,
But clouds and cloudy shadows wander free.
That never spoke, over the idle ground:
But in green ruins, in the desolate walls
Of antique palaces, where Man hath been,
Though the dun fox, or wild hyæna, calls,
And owls, that flit continually between,
Shriek to the echo, and the low winds moan,—
There the true Silence is, self-conscious and alone.

    till we meet again

    Turkey Vultures

Outside my bedroom window I see fluid, lithe bodies flying over the freshly cut field. They're scouring for unsuspecting mice or snakes. Clad in my Faded Glory t-shirt, blue jean shorts and navy blue houseshoes I grab my camera and zoom in. I wonder what it's like to be that hungry as I snap pictures of the turkey vultures gliding in and out of my frame.

I stand in summer's face while listening to its suasive rhythms. My hands poised in upright position. I reach out in front of my eyes and take my next shot of three turkey vultures munching on their afternoon snack.

My eyes squint under the sun's exposure while simultaneously trying to watch the last turkey vulture take flight. His expansive wings cresting upon a July wind bring my thoughts to a head. Where did this magnificent creature come from and where will he lay his beak tonight?

Here's a link to information on the turkey vulture. Click on pictures to enlarge.

    A Roar For Powerful Words

Today Christina from Maria Cristina blog gave me my first blog award, A Roar For Powerful Words! What a wonderful way to start my day. Thank you so much, Christina.

The award is originally from The Shameless Lions Writing Circle. If you would like to learn more about this award and how to pass it on please follow the link provided.

Here are my three pieces of writing advice I want to share.

    1. Don't ever give up on your writing. Always seek ways to continue.
    2. If inspiration leaves you, try to surround yourself with writing from others who share your interest.
    3. Most importantly keep writing something. The more you write the better you will feel about each finished piece.

Here are the five people I want to share this award with today.

    Sedoka

The Sedoka is a Japanese form whose six line poem is made up of two (3 line) verses of 5-7-7 syllables (katuata). Sedoka addresses a subject from different perspectives and is an unrhymed poem.

    Line 1... 5 syllables (onji)
    Line 2... 7 syllables (onji)
    Line 3... 7 syllables (onji)

    Line 4... 5 syllables (onji)
    Line 5... 7 syllables (onji)
    Line 6... 7 syllables (onji)

I borrowed the example by Hortensia Anderson, New York, USA from this website. I hope Hortensia doesn't mind my using this example as it is a beautiful tribute to a sedoka.

    Softly, the clouds slip
    away from an azure sky
    above Saint Mark's Church graveyard

    an angel loiters
beneath a plum tree in bloom
petals fall on wings of stone.
